Opportunity to Give

This creates opportunities for people to help others in need, as well as for those in need to have a chance to be supported by people who can give them support.

Some people can donate, time, money or goods, but don’t know how, where, or when to do it. This art was created to bring out new connections (individually or through organizations) to be a central point for donating anything you want, or help you realize that YOU can give to others. And those who need help will receive the help they need.

There are many volunteer organizations out there such as the Red Cross, you can find ways to volunteer here. An internet search for volunteer programs or asking people you trust can help you find the right organization that matches you. Often the best thing to do is find something you truly believe in or something that touches your heart, then search for ways to help people with the same goals.

Here is a nice wiki on some things to consider if you want to volunteer.

It is important to remember that there are other ways to give than offering your time or services. Many people are simply too busy in their life just making ends meet for themselves and cannot spare any time. If you have just a little money to give, you can help someone start their dream by contributing to small loans at places like Kiva. You may not even think of it, but there may be someone close to you whose life you can change for the better by offering something that you have and they don’t.

The first and most important step is to want to help. Make up your mind that you are going to do something for someone, and the opportunity to give will present itself.

Inspiration

Dreams of disasters and situations where people can’t handle things on their own sparked my inspiration to create this design.

Notes

We live in Japan and my oldest son went with a small thirteen member volunteer group from his high school to Miyagi Prefecture after the Great Tohoku Earthquake disaster of March 11, 2011. This experience changed his outlook on life very much. Their goal was to offer emotional support for the victims and survivors of the tsunami and they mostly gave everyone (from kindergarten children to the elderly) a chance to tell their stories to someone who would listen respectfully. They also organized some small events to lift the community’s spirits and cheer everyone up.

The efforts of the school teachers and the ideas of the students gave the residents of those disaster struck areas some hope and inspiration to move forward.
